SUAL024a philip madness - cicadas
Andrew Lyons, a long time Soulseek Records contributor, brings to us his debut SUAL release. Normally recording as
Automated Reason(soulseekrecords, idtv.net) and Brotherhood of the Drill(binkcrsh), this piece presents us with his new moniker (Philip Madness) and is quite different from his previous works. The listener would have trouble identifying these songs as being made by the same producer in the same decade, which shows pmad's versatility. Nonetheless, it fits comfortably into the ambient genre resembling the likes of Biosphere and Stars of the Lid. Soft field recordings crescendo into spirals of musical soundscapes that send the listener into a trance, while keeping you focused on the next transition. Faintly heard feedback and guitar experimentation adds to the experience as if part of nature. The composition of the album slowly meanders into its many elements and meshes them together with subtle intricacies. After listening to this, one becomes more aware of his or her surroundings and can appreciate life's vibrational essence as if seeing from a new perspective. With Cicadas, you can now hear the world through the ears of Philip Madness.

An EP of experimental rhythms, transformatted imagery, field recordings and stolen glimpses of popular culture. The ingredients were collected and loosely blended to form this soundscape in the days surrounding that almost magical of celestial events: a lunar eclipse.

SUAL020a Laskurg - Wonderwheel
With the look of the rather foreboding Ferris Wheel on the cover, one wonders how could people let a children’s amusement park fall into such a state. Then, as we look closer, we see some true beauty in the neglect, gaudy colors muted with time. Laskurg’s first effort here hides some quite wonderful melodies throughout the chaos of random sounds, which morph into some surprisingly catchy melodies. So, like the amusement park, don’t be afraid of its sometimes broken nature,it is part of a much bigger picture

SUAL019a EatMe - Buenos Tracks
EatMe makes music in Renoise, software sequencer of choice, that is
easy to digest, but in no way resembles prefab microwave food. So what
is it this artist brings you? Mostly electropop-inspired house and
breakbeat music, performed with a keen eye for details. All songs
convey a certain type of warmth, so to say. If you listen to the tracks
EatMe made throughout the years you won't find much sad, depressive
songs. Most of the tracks have a clear and uplifting feeling, mostly
due to the major chords in combination with clean instruments. This
says nothing about the tempo though, some breakbeat tracks EatMe made
are actually very fast. All of EatMe's tracks are freely available for
non commercial use from his website. This Soulseek Records release
consists of some of finest EatMe tracks.

SUAL018a sound creation - in the mind
With the advent of downloading it has almost taken
away a listeners interest in checking out a complete project
of an artist sometimes. One of the things I love about the music of
sound creation is that there seems to be a real concerted effort to
care about quality of sound and editing, which is superb I might add.
Each note necessary and important to each composition and there are no
more or less of them than there needs to be. But even better than the
aesthetics is the actual content of the music which is light, airy,
whimsical, atmospheric, and at times tinged with a bit of moodiness.
Everything is allowed to breathe. To me this is a must have for the
beach, sea or land. Listening to Berry gave me a tropical feeling like
I was out on a boat and I felt like this might be what I would be
listening to. Break the Habit is a nice moving piece that would be a
great listen on a long drive or relaxing at home. I also really enjoyed
kennel the textures are pleasing and most interesting. As and EP I
found it to be something I really liked listening to from beginning to
end. A must for the Ipod for sure.

SUAL017a nik jade - metronomadic
Left out to bake in the southern sun this latest outing from Nik Jade serves
up as a savvy blend of worldly ingredients; fit to feed the musical hunger of
both groove-aficionado and glitch-junkie alike, in his new 6 track Ep, Jade
transports the acid-causalities, square-peg drifters, and creeping fauna of
his native Austin, Texas into a digital world haunted by scatter-shot break
beats, subsonic bass bursts, and soul survivours pleadin' for redemption.
This is IDM with a soul to match the full scope of its technical ambitions.

SUAL016a SineWeaver - For EP
Matt
Wilson’s new creation “For EP” lives up to the artist’s alias,
launching pulsating drum funk songs followed by more down tempo chill
out music. Starting out with a chip tune that brilliantly mixes in
d&b elements to ending with an exquisitely relaxing parting song
followed by a warning siren and a little robot girl informing you of
the conclusion of the EP. It is definitely one you’ll have on repeat
for some time to come.

SUAL014a Humantie - Milk Consumption
"Milk Consumption" offers a sound reminiscient of 8 bit gaming: in a time
when life was worry free and mampi still cut the pb&j into triangles for
you. Humanite offers a digital toast to the good life in this album. These
tunes are perfect for dubbing over saturday morning cartoons (especially
if you are looking for some relaxing down-tempo electronic music).
When I first played this album, I was immediately reminded of early Anticon
instrumental works, but as I gave it a second listen (and then a third,
fourth and fifth listen) it became evident that the sounds he was producing
were very original and held a level of authenticity thats not easy to find in
this style of electronic music today, truly a gem in the underground scene.
"Milk Consumption" is a soundtrack for replaying childhood memories in the
back of your mind.
